This is the moment a three-metre long crocodile hauled himself out of a river and tried to steal a kill from some very angry lions. The fearless Nile crocodile - known to locals as Fred - took on two fearsome adult females who were feeding their cubs an impala the lionesses had just killed. Engrossed in their meal it takes the big cats a few moments to realise Fred is coming towards them and at one stage it looks like he might succeed as he opens his massive jaws.Picture: OLI DREIKE / CATERS NEWS

A lioness comes in for a closer look at BeetleCam, a remote-controlled, camouflaged camera, in Luangwa, Zambia. BeetleCam allows Will Burrard-Lucas to capture intimate snaps of some of the continent’s most fearsome animals without the risk of being savaged. Will, who hails from London, is spending a year in Zambia.Picture: Burrard-Lucas / Barcroft Media
